early education The Early Education Centre (also known as Pikininis) is located at the Port Vila International School site on Erakor Road.  The new centre has two lovely big classrooms, prep-rooms, staffroom and the director’s office. There is a large inside/outside activity area for blocks, puzzles, books, dramatic play, painting, construction, story-time and music activities.  Outside there is a fully fenced play area with a sandpit, adventure playground, water play area and plenty of room for physical activity.

The Centre caters for students from the age of three. Dolphins caters for students who are turning 5 in that year. Starfish caters for students who are three turning four. In some instances, when spaces are available, young three year olds may be considered for Starfish.

The curriculum at "Pikininis" encourages active learning, problem solving, effective communication, creativity, social adjustment and participation.

The staff at the centre enable this to happen by providing a balanced, integrated programme for young children incorporating the five Early Learning Areas of:

Depending on the readiness of the group, Dolphins may be introduced to more formal pre-writing and pre-reading skills in preparation for Year 1. Language development is a focus, as students need to express their needs clearly and understand and follow instructions in English. A show and tell session is held each day. Each student will have a chance to share something special with the group at least once a week.
