Port Vila International Senior School offers the following subjects in Year 8, 9 and 10.The content area covered in each subject area is based upon the a variety of syllabuses EnglishThe English curriculum offers opportunities to refine skills in Reading and Viewing, Writing and Designing and Speaking and Listening. Class novels are studied at each year level and different genres are covered. There is a major focus on grammar and the structures of writing. Students study different forms of English as experienced through radio, TV, computers and other forms of multimedia. Creative writing, poetry and drama are taught across each year level. MathematicsThe Mathematics programme teches the five strands, Number, Patterns and Algerbra, Measurement, Chance/ Data and Space. Testing of students knowledge is carried out by skill revision tests at the end of each topic. ScienceThe Science programme teaches the five strands, Science and Society, Earth and Beyond, Energy and Change, Life and Living and Natural and Processed Materials at each level and testing is carried out periodically. The Science Lab is used for practical experiments at Senior School. Studies of Society and EnvironmentThe Social Science curriculum,FrenchThe French language programme is based on an interactive programme from the United Kingdom. Grammatical structures and vocabulary are a focus, as is oral language. A specialist French teacher equips the students with an in- depth study of the language.
Health and Physical EducationThe Health modules include Food to Grow, Changing Families,Body Image, Developing Fitness and Managing Mental Stress.
All Senior students participate and train for the Aquatics, Athletics and Cross Country carnivals. In addition, PVIS holds an annual Volleyball Competition and an inter- school cricket competition.
There are many opportunities in the community to be part of a wide range of sports.
The ArtsA range of skills are intergrated into our Arts programme at PVIS. Dance, Drama, Media and Visual Arts are some of the components of The Arts curriculum area. A culmination of these components are on display at the End of Year Concert.
Technology
Computer based and hands-on activities are performed in this subject. Modules such as producing a suite of business stationary and designing talking books, each of which develop skills in Microsoft Office, allow the students to become competent with various computer programmes and are exposed to a range of software. Students become involved in woodwork and metalwork with design and make assignments.Community projects are also included in the Technology programme with projects from PVIS proudly displayed at the hospital and airport. |
